In 2020, during the peak of the pandemic, my dear friend was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer and had to be hospitalized. Speaking with her, I knew she was terrified, not just by her diagnosis, but also by the fear of contracting COVID-19. My intent was to send her a card, but I thought, she is going to be there for a bit, and paper gets damaged from wear and tear, why not make her a framed art piece. The first image that came to mind was that of a tree because I have always been fascinated by them. Each is unique and for me — they represent strength.
